Boston Moving Company Offers Update on New Regulations on International Moving

PR Log (Press Release) – Jan 25, 2010 – Humboldt Storage and Moving, greater Boston’s oldest moving company, largest United Van Lines agent and experts in stress-free moving are used to international relocations. The Boston moving company conducts an average of 1,200 international moves each year. New US government rulings however make moving to another country a bit more challenging and Humboldt Storage and Moving is on top of the new regulation.

As of January 2010, anyone moving out of the United States must file for an Employer Identification Number more commonly known as an EIN Number.  In the past, people would only have to use their social security number but now they need to apply for an EIN number through the IRS. The filing of this number is the responsibility of the individual moving. This is aimed at securing personal data and to prevent identity theft. The video outlining these new regulations can be found here at the Humboldt Blog; http://www.movingcompanyblog.com/?p=430

Humboldt Storage and Moving http://www.humboldt.com/  handles a large amount of corporate international moves and have been asked about what can happen if this is not taken care of by the person moving. For an employer relocating employees to other parts of the world, this can cause delays on a number of levels if not properly handled. It can delay the employee in getting to his or her new assignment, incur costs such as temporary housing if shipment of goods are not on time and cost thousands of dollars in the process.

“We see a lot of international moves here each year,” states James Sullivan, president of Humboldt Storage and Moving. “We also see the stress involved in not only regular moves but the ones overseas. One small misstep on the part of anyone in the moving process can escalate that stress and make for a more challenging move; especially when moving internationally.”
