A report Monday from the United States Department of Agriculture said 49 million Americans are food insecure. This marks an increase of 36 percent over the 36.2 million who were at risk of hunger a year ago.
According to Feeding America, 41.5 percent of all the households it serves reported having to choose between buying food and paying for utilities or heat within the previous 12 months. More than one-third (35 percent) of client households reported having to choose between paying for food and paying their rent or mortgage.
“Not having a place to park at the airport is a minor inconvenience. Not having enough food on the table to feed yourself or your family is a major problem that we should all be working toward solving. Our contribution is just a small part of the concerted effort it will take from businesses, individuals and charitable organizations like Feeding America to address this issue that impacts nearly 50 million Americans,” said Budde.
