Are Quad Bikes Road Legal and If So Do They Need Insurance?

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 29, 2009 – Quad Bikes are becoming ever popular with teenage males as an alternative mode of transportation to the usual scooter or moped. These four wheeled pocket rockets are very robust and quite often very powerful, and so are a becoming a very fashionable item. Designed as an off-road means of transport, they are now commonly seen on the road.
However, are they legally able to be used on the road? And if so, do they require the same legal documents that a scooter or moped would require, such as insurance, tax and an MOT?
Most Quads are designed to be purely used on private property or licensed events. To use one on the road it will require the same basic features that a bike or scooter poses to pass an MOT. This includes; headlights, indicators, rear and brake lights, mirrors, speedometer and number plates. The rider must also, by law wear a motorcycle helmet at all times and be over the age of 17. These items can either be fitted to off-road quad bikes, in which case the work would have to be carried out by a professional company and passed by an MOT centre, or road legal quad bikes can now be purchased.
As far as legal documents are concerned, the law states that quad bikes require the same documentation as any other road vehicle. This entails being registered with the DVLA, having a valid MOT certificate, full motorcycle driving licence, road tax and insurance. Gaining insurance for quad bikes can be quite challenging if you go to a generic insurer. Some are very reluctant to quote because of the niche nature of the machines. A good idea is to try a specialist quad bike insurer such as Bike Sure who have enough information to give a well rounded quote.
In conclusion, quad bikes can legally be used on UK roads as long as the laws are followed. As with all things, a person can have many years of happy riding if safety is adhered to.

Celtic Campervans.com: Your Online Resource for Planning a Self-Drive Holiday in Ireland

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 27, 2009 – CelticCampervans.com has a wealth of useful tips and information on where to go and what to see among the massive variety of attractions and beauty spots which Ireland has to offer.
Camper hire in Ireland is a hugely popular way to see the country, and Celtic Campervans has been spearheading this method of travel for over three decades. Offering freedom and flexibility that few other types of holiday can match, campervan rental in Ireland has become a favourite way to explore the Emerald Isle for families, gap-year travellers, honeymooners and festival-goers alike.
The self-drive holiday in Ireland page on CelticCampervans.com helps you plan your trip; particularly helpful when faced with the multitude of options Ireland offers the holiday-maker or traveller. Choose from famous sights such as the Blarney stone and the Giant’s Causeway, natural beauty spots like the Cliffs of Moher and The Ring of Kerry, or a tour of the cultural delights, from art galleries and museums to culinary hotspots. There are so many sides of Ireland to enjoy, far more than its relatively diminutive size would suggest: the Ireland of rich history; the Ireland of breathtaking natural beauty; the Ireland of tradition and folklore; the Ireland of cosmopolitan culture; the Ireland of epicurean delights.
It was Ireland’s tourism that was of primary interest to two of Celtic Campervans’ latest customers to book a self-drive holiday. RTÉ’s Radio 1 Morning Ireland programme sent two reporters – John Murray and Cian McCormack – on a tour of Ireland in a 2-6 berth Celtic Campervan to report on the current state of tourism. On their first day, before setting off to Tramore in County Waterford, John and Cian spoke to Stephen Bradshaw, Managing Director of Celtic Campervans, who showed them round their spacious motorhome equipped with all the mod cons. The reporters went on to ask Stephen how Celtic

Campervans were finding this season to be shaping up given the reported drop in tourism. Stephen explained that although the season was more unpredictable than in previous years, with job uncertainty meaning fewer people were planning ahead for their holiday then before, Celtic Campervans were still seeing a very healthy number of bookings. It certainly seems that self-drive holidays in Ireland, especially in campervans, are still just as popular as ever and bookings in this area don’t reflect any reported drop in tourism.
When you take a Celtic Campervan around Ireland, the only limitation is your imagination. Get started by stoking your inspiration at CelticCampervans.com, and ask yourself: what side of Ireland do you want to experience? For inspiration, a wealth of information and seasonal offers, visit www.celticcampervans.com.

An Australian Designed -GAS Injection System for Diesel Engines will Revolutionize Green Fuel Market

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 17, 2009 – An Australian Designed - GAS Injection System for Diesel Engines will Revolutionize Green Fuel Market Place

An Australian-designed gas additive system is saving thousands of dollars per week off the fuel bills of their customers, its inventors claim.
Green Fuel Systems International (GFSI) is the developer of the now renowned Dual Phase Induction System which introduces a combustible gas into the air intake of diesel engines to improve the diesel combustion process.
Until very recently Green Fuel Systems International (GFSI) claimed that their Dual Phase Induction process was the safest method of getting a combustible gas into the combustion chamber.
GFSI Senior Engineer Mark Kilburn said the process of inducting gas into the engines’ air stream results in a number of efficiencies, including fuel-cost savings, increased torque and horsepower, lower emissions and reduced engine wear.
Mr. Kilburn said, “Gas has a faster burn rate than diesel, so when introduced to the combustion process helps diesel burn more efficiently than normal.  Diesel engines are typically only 75-80% efficient, meaning 20-25% of diesel fuel is passed through the exhaust system unburnt.  Gas assists the diesel fuel combustion process thereby overall increasing diesel combustion efficiency to nearly 100%.”
However, like all great research and design companies GFSI was not about to sit back and admire their previous efforts.  Instead they went straight back to work on an even more efficient system, appropriately named the Dual Phase Injection System.
Injection rather than induction of a combustible gas has been inherently problematic. The main difference between the two processes is one system uses the vacuum created by engine load demand to draw air into the combustion chamber.  The other system injects gas directly into the manifold as required by load.
It is understood that the induction process allows the gas to fully blend with the incoming air prior to entering the combustion chamber.  The same cannot be said for the process of injection as it has little way of mixing fully due the location of the gas injectors.
It is widely known that engines can suffer damage including pitting, hotspots or cracked pistons due to the direct injection of gas into the manifold as the injected gas is unable to completely mix with the incoming air which is commonly known as ‘gas streaming’.  Basically the combustion area can have pockets of gas that are at a very high level of concentration.
It is also very possible to have other areas within the chamber that will have a very lean concentration of gas.  Engines may also suffer damage from a faulty gas injector causing an imbalance to the engine’s combustion process.
Over the last couple of years GFSI have been working to overcome the problems that faced anyone who had attempted injection in the past.
After two years of research and development, the talented team of engineers at GFSI claim they have now solved every issue that had previously hindered the gas injection community.
Mr. Kilburn stated, “We not only now have the world’s best induction system, we also have the world’s most advanced, reliable and safest injection system currently available for diesel engines of any size.”
If the past is anything to go by GFSI does not make statements like that unless they truly believe the product is capable of surpassing their claims.
One of GFSI's earliest clients, AT Clarke & Daughters Pty. Ltd. has been taking advantage of the Induction System's fuel cost savings for quite a while although now Managing Director Allan Clarke is now eagerly awaiting the fitment of his first GFSI injection system.
Mr. Clarke said, “After trialing the GFSI Induction System for six months on a Kenworth 604 I will continue to have all my trucks fitted with a GFSI system.  I’m not only impressed with the results but also the after sales service this company offers.”
Mr. Kilburn said, “Although AT Clarke & Daughters has been a fantastic client and truly supports our product we believe that the new injection system will revolutionize even Alan Clarke’s view on what is a great product. “
“Many including Mr. Clarke who have been using our system are going to find out just how much better we can do.  It will not only perform better than any other gas additive system in the entire world by saving larger amounts off their fuel bills, it will be unsurpassed for its safety and its ability to even further reduce green house gas exhaust emissions.”
Once again we see an Australian company leading the world in research and design of alternative fuel products and processes.   If there second diesel gas system is, as they claim, better than their first then they are indeed on a winner.
GFSI systems are always powered by the expertise of its sister company CSMU Technologies Pty Ltd.   More information can be obtained from their website www.gfsi.com.au or by phoning CSMU Technologies Pty Ltd+ 61 2 49661826.

CSMU Technologies is a small Research and Design company punching well above its weight. Through a highly skilled team of engineers they have been able to secure clients like Auspost, GFSI, BAE, Incitec Pivot, Pioneergas.

Senator Maria Cantwell Requests Funding for Northern Columbia Basin Railroad Project

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 12, 2009 – Washington, DC - In a recent press release from U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell regarding her Fiscal Year 2010 Transportation, Judiciary, Housing and Urban Development appropriation requests, the Senator included a request for funding for the Northern Columbia Basin Railroad Project in Moses Lake, Washington.
In the recent release Senator Cantwell writes: “Our state has been particularly hard hit by the economic downturn – unemployment levels have skyrocketed and I’ve heard from many local communities struggling to cover basic services like education, public safety, transportation and health care.  As a United States Senator, part of my job is to help critical priorities in our state receive attention from the federal government so that we can help reinvigorate our economy, create new, high-paying jobs, and help our working families stay ahead in these tough economic times….Every year, I receive hundreds of requests for assistance from cities, counties, water and utility districts, transportation agencies, and others. I carefully review and evaluate these requests — and choose to submit a selection of these projects to the Committee."
One of the key projects in which Sen. Maria Cantwell requested funding (for the FY 2010 Transportation, Judiciary, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies appropriations bill) is the Northern Columbia Basin Railroad Project (Segment 2 and Segment 3 Construction – Port of Moses Lake).
According to the recent release (http://cantwell.senate.gov/news/record.cfm?id=313084) from Sen. Cantwell, “The Northern Columbia Basin Railroad project is an overall $36.5 million investment in freight mobility and industrial development in Moses Lake and Grant County.  The project has five segments that when completed will bypass downtown Moses Lake in favor of a more efficient direct route to the Grant County International Airport industrial area.  It will also offer a strategic rail connection to the BNSF mainline near Soap Lake. Approximately half of the industrial-zoned property within the Moses Lake uniform growth area is near the Grant County Int’l Airport, north of Moses Lake.  This is highly attractive property to large manufacturers that want to develop industries in Washington State.  The area is already hosting international companies such as General Dynamics, Takata, Tama Chemicals, Boeing, Nippon Chemi-Con and Genie Industries.  More efficient and competitive rail connectivity is recognized as an important infrastructure upgrade”
“Amount Requested: $19,000,000”

UM’s Solar Car can be seen in action this October at the 2009 World Solar Challenge being held in Australia. The Challenge, which starts in Australian’s Northern Territory and ends in Southern Australia, consists of 3000 miles of racing over some of Australia’s vast, hot and most desolate lands.  To follow PressurePro’s travels with the University of Michigan’s Solar Car, visit http://solarcar.engin.umich.edu.

Olympic 2010 Transportation Plan restricts traffic in Whistler, British Columbia.

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 08, 2009 – Vancouver, B.C. -- Phase 1 of the Olympic 2010 Transportation plan has been released and the news isn’t good for anyone considering driving from Vancouver to Whistler to watch events.
There will be no public parking available in Whistler. Drivers who cannot demonstrate they have arranged parking in Whistler will not be allowed on the highway.
Buses will be available at regular intervals from Vancouver, however travel time is approximately two hours each way not including wait time at departure depots.
A high volume of traffic is anticipated at peak hours. For example, before and after events.
To avoid the hassle, many are looking into a Whistler home rental  close to public transit and within walking distance of the village. Ticket holders can drive up to Whistler before the traffic restrictions start and leave when they are over avoiding the congestion on the road. Skiers can even arrive early enough to take advantage of Whistler’s quiet season prior to the excitement of the Games.
